1.Day Trip to Armenia Including Homemade Lunch

★★★★★★★★★★5.0 · 1,162 reviews · 11 hours (approx.) · from $59Our pick

Join an English-speaking guide such as Anna, Metro, Luca, or Tota for an 11-hour trip from Tbilisi into northern Armenia. Visit Akhtala, Haghpat, and Sanahin monasteries, stop at Debed Canyon and the Mikoyan Brothers’ Museum, and enjoy a generous homemade Armenian lunch with a local family.

“The day trip to Armenia was arduous and uncomfortable. The van used was old and small, making the long day even longer. We spent as much time getting through the border and on and off the cramped van as we did at the sights. The lunch provided was very good and although the sights we saw were interesting, they were all monasteries. Anna did a good job explaining the history, but the things we saw were not varied enough to be interesting. I would not recommend this trip to others.”

This 17-hour small-group trip crosses from Tbilisi into Armenia, visiting Haghpat Monastery, Lake Sevan, Sevanavank, Mother Armenia, the Cascade, and Republic Square. Expect a long day in a Wi-Fi-equipped, air-conditioned vehicle with up to 15 people. Guides such as Paata, Morris, Sophie, and Bata are known for local history and friendly help at the border.

“We enjoyed this trip. Yes, it is long, 18 hrs, but that’s the cost of being able to see multiple areas of a country in 1 day. Great communication from the tour company. I felt trust in them from the start. We liked our guide Paata. Some things we didn’t love: perhaps better communication once on the bus. Two people didn’t prepare for a visa and this held us up at the border for a bit. Time is precious on this tour. We lost some additional time because of a few other hiccups and I think this prompted the driver to drive like a maniac, especially on the way home.…”

“The actual tour was very good, enlightening and exposed us to cultures we knew very little about. We thoroughly explored local cuisines of both countries during our dining with the local tour guide, and he did a great job vetting food experiences given my food allergies. There were many high points of the trip, beautiful landscapes and thought-provoking experiences. However, I would only recommend this trip with the following cautions: Booking the luxury or any experience outside the basic tour does not guarantee that you will get that experience. Apparently, you book your tour and any options through Viator. Viator then secures a local tour company to book the elements…”
